Rich in Years, Finding Peace and Purpose in a Long Life is so inspiring, through the use of real-life stories, quotes and information from many people. I love all the different quotes he includes and photos with short quotes at the beginning of each chapter. It is a real treasure chest of encouragement and very thought provoking as I journey through my life. Once quote he included from Macbeth really hit home for me," Out, out, brief candle! Life's but a walking shadow, a poor player That struts and frets his hour upon the stage And then is heard no more: it is a tale Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury, Signifying nothing." There are so many other short little tidbits of wonder information included in Mr Arnold's book. I highly recommend it.

Miss Brenda and the Loveladies is an inspiring story of a woman that used her experience and resources to turn life around for a group of ladies that no one would give a chance to, not enough themselves. I liked the story and how she wrote about each of the ladies and their experiences but I would have liked more about her own life, how she grew up, her childhood and how she got to the point where she was that gave her the passions she had for these women. There is some of that at the beginning of the book and a short part about how she almost got put in prison but I wanted more. It is a quick read and very interesting, anyone involved in prison or prison ministry would really relate and enjoy this novel. I received this book for free from WaterBrook Press/Blogging for Books for this review. I was not required to write a positive review.

Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/01232364134656695331noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-36317497959768565.post-59973789463567506512014-04-14T10:38:00.001-07:002014-04-14T10:38:53.615-07:00Review: Betrayal

Betrayal by Karin Alvtegen

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

This book was a great psychological ride through the art of betrayal which was at times creepy but other times thrilling but the end was not what I expected and I was disappointed. In his book, Ingredients for Success 10 Best Practices, Joseph Slawek used Matthew 25 as his main reference and particularly 3 main parables. He shows how each applies to the practices and how they apply to your business and life. By using the 10 best practices which include truth, planning, abilities, talents, accounting, invest, excellence (not perfection), being strong, redistribution and gratitude, you can find the true purpose of your business and your life. I think the author sets up get practices, which are from the teachings of Jesus, that every business can use. His writing is excellent and he is very humble in his presentation of the information. A short book with lots of thought provoking information, highly recommended.

In Tommy Barnett's new book about "getting things done", he says the key to maximizing your productivity is to make use of small, manageable moments, 30 minutes, in your life. This practical easy to read book seems to provide almost immediate results for all most all areas of our life. Even though the idea is a very simple one, the author seems to help you press on to actually put it into action, which is the hard part for so many of us. There is a Personal Power of a Half Hour Action Plan which I used after each chapter and it helped emphasize each point in the chapter so it was easier to push on. Also included is a Small-Group Study Guide with 7 lessons.
This book is for those of us who have not started to try and manage our time or have forgotten that even a small amount of time each day can make a big difference.

The Crossing by Serita Jakes is a very interesting story of how two worlds collide during a murder investigation. One person a friend of the coach killed on the school bus that day and another the star athlete. Both so very affected by the shooting that it changed their lives in so many ways. The dying thoughts of the victim at the first part of each chapter was excellent and really caused me to want to read more. This is a book you can't put down, even though at some points it is very disjointed and you seem to not be in touch with the characters the over all story is very good.

This beautiful, larger, paperback book compiled by Hodge contains chapters by several different authors that give us a unique perspective on what Christmas and the holidays is all about. The book covers the many misconceptions of Christmas, origins of Christmas, when Jesus was really born and many other very interesting facts about the holiday. It covered some of the reasons why the author feels there is a war on Christmas but more information about why we celebrate the season like we do and the facts about why there is a holiday. Some of the chapters are a little "preachy" and seem to more directed to Christians. But you still get a sense of the purpose of why Christmas is so important.

I love books you can learn from that are written as parables. This book has the best of both worlds. One part is the fictional account of 4 people in their 20's who are having issues with their bosses and throughout the story you learn Biblical principals of leading and following well. The story moves along very well and the author really keeps you interested in each of the people involved. Then the second part expands on the story and principals and provides more insight and Bible references. He calls this section A Concise Theology of Leadership. When I saw this title I wasn't sure I wanted to read this section but I was very glad I did. He made Theology interesting. Also at the end there is a discussion guide which is great if you want to use this book in a small group setting. I would recommend this book for anyone interesting in being a follower or leader and really we are one or the other.
But wow, was I amazed at how it worked and how nice and clean my toilet bowl stayed. I am cleaning so much less and there seems to always be a nice scent in my bathroom. You do have to make sure when you clip on the product to the side of the toilet that you make sure that the water runs through it when flushing but it seemed to fit my toilet perfectly. Also it says it lasts up to four weeks but mine has last much longer. It costs less than $2 so really good deal.
Well I was not disappointed and actually very surprised that the strips were actually better. You can place them almost anywhere unlike the traps, much easier to use. I really love these and with all the rain lately expected to see at least a few in my home but saw none after placing these. Combat you have a winner here.
I felt this book was very true to life when it comes to the struggles of women and even if you do have a strong support group, family and church, tough times can still take over your life. I loved the quotes at the beginning of each chapter. But in some ways I couldn't relate because it seemed she had unlimited resources to travel, etc when needed or wanted and seemed to me that she was always on the go. The part where she went through the depression was her own story but didn't have any indication that she got professional help and did it much on her own which is not healthy at all. I don't think this book will help you get over your depression but will help you realize you are not alone.
North of Hope is a beautiful memoir of the search for meaning and closure after a terrible tragedy. Not only a journey by the author internally but externally and she brings us along with her in such a fascinating way. Her descriptions of the landscape made me feel if I was there. For anyone who has ever had a personal tragedy I think you will really relate to the authors story and can appreciate what she was going through. She has so many references that I could relate to so I enjoyed to book very much.

If you are looking for a product that does it all for the bath and kitchen, this is the one for you. I love Soft Scrub but it seemed to always leave a residue and didn't have the best smell, but it did the job. Well no worries anymore, this product is just what I have been looking for, no residue and a great scent! One really great thing about this product is the easy open cap, can use one hand to dispense the product. If you would like to win a coupon for a free bottle just like Soft Scrub's Facebook page and let me know in comments.
I have used Borax for whiting clothes, cleaning my sinks and recently I found it really gets out deodorant stains on shirts. Just make a powder and rub it into the stain leave on for a few minutes and wash with Borax and other laundry detergent. Wow it really does the job. Can say how much I love this stuff.
