Ingredients for Success 10 Best Practices for Business and Life by Joesph James Slawek

In his book, Ingredients for Success 10 Best Practices, Joseph Slawek used Matthew 25 as his main reference and particularly 3 main parables. He shows how each applies to the practices and how they apply to your business and life. By using the 10 best practices which include truth, planning, abilities, talents, accounting, invest, excellence (not perfection), being strong, redistribution and gratitude, you can find the true purpose of your business and your life. I think the author sets up get practices, which are from the teachings of Jesus, that every business can use. His writing is excellent and he is very humble in his presentation of the information. A short book with lots of thought provoking information, highly recommended. I received my copy of this book from Handlebar Publishing in exchange for this honest review. All opinions are my own.

The Power of a Half Hour by Tommy Barnett

In Tommy Barnett's new book about "getting things done", he says the key to maximizing your productivity is to make use of small, manageable moments, 30 minutes, in your life. This practical easy to read book seems to provide almost immediate results for all most all areas of our life. Even though the idea is a very simple one, the author seems to help you press on to actually put it into action, which is the hard part for so many of us. There is a Personal Power of a Half Hour Action Plan which I used after each chapter and it helped emphasize each point in the chapter so it was easier to push on. Also included is a Small-Group Study Guide with 7 lessons. This book is for those of us who have not started to try and manage our time or have forgotten that even a small amount of time each day can make a big difference. I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group/Blogging for Books for this review. I was not required to write a positive review.

The Crossing by Serita Jakes

The Crossing by Serita Jakes is a very interesting story of how two worlds collide during a murder investigation. One person a friend of the coach killed on the school bus that day and another the star athlete. Both so very affected by the shooting that it changed their lives in so many ways. The dying thoughts of the victim at the first part of each chapter was excellent and really caused me to want to read more. This is a book you can't put down, even though at some points it is very disjointed and you seem to not be in touch with the characters the over all story is very good. I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group/Blogging for Books for this review. I was not required to write a positive review.

Review-The War on Christmas by Bodie Hodge

The War on Christmas: Battles in Faith, Tradition and Religious Expression by Bodie Hodge. This beautiful, larger, paperback book compiled by Hodge contains chapters by several different authors that give us a unique perspective on what Christmas and the holidays is all about. The book covers the many misconceptions of Christmas, origins of Christmas, when Jesus was really born and many other very interesting facts about the holiday. It covered some of the reasons why the author feels there is a war on Christmas but more information about why we celebrate the season like we do and the facts about why there is a holiday. Some of the chapters are a little "preachy" and seem to more directed to Christians. But you still get a sense of the purpose of why Christmas is so important. I received my copy of this book from Handlebar Publishing in exchange for this honest review. All opinions are my own.
